Weaving a Life

“From an early age, I sought an interesting career in the arts that would allow for independence and the exploration of color, design and fiber. I found one that has captivated me for life. Because weaving is essential to every culture worldwide, it has led me to travel the world, to engage with masterful fiber artists - from the craggy coast of Ireland, to the gentle highland slopes of Japan. It has provided me with the opportunity to draw upon a rich history and incorporate ancient traditions to create my own modern visions. The spark for almost every wall hanging I create is related to to my association with the flux between land, sea and sky.

There is a core human element to weaving, from designing the tapestry, warping the loom, to dying the threads, to knotting the hem. Those who love my work often have a deep appreciation for the creative process and the great joy it brings to me. This human connection means everything.”

Process

Wall hangings are all dyed by hand in an intricate process.
The threads are put on the loom in white so that I can dye the hanging with fabric paint while I weave.
